With great sadness, the family of Darrell Lester Fennell announces his passing on Monday, July 31, 2017 at 78 years of age.  Darrell will be missed and lovingly remembered by Debra Fennell, his wife of 24 wonderful years, who survives in Flagstaff AZ.   They were married in Phoenix, AZ on February 27, 1993.  Also surviving are his son Darin Fennell of Mesa AZ, stepdaughter April Carr of Scottsdale AZ, 2 step grandchildren, aunt (Lee) Elizabeth Laskonis of McHenry IL, sister Debbie Johnson of Hoopeston IL, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Darrell was born November 22, 1938 to Lester and Stella (Duvall) Fennell in Bradley IL.  They preceded him in death.  He was also preceded by his sister, Shirley Fennell Hatch and an infant brother Bryan Fennell.

Darrell was a graduate of Bradley Bourbonnais Community High School class of 1956 and of Kankakee Community College, Darrell was also a veteran who served our country in the army as a member of the 101st Airborne.

He then lived and worked in Spokane WA and Fairbanks Alaska before his return to Bradley where he worked in management for General Foods for many years.  He moved to Flagstaff AZ in 1991 and retired there after 15 years of employment with Northern Arizona University.  

Darrell loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter.  He was a hobbyist gunsmith and created several beautiful and unique rifles.  Darrell also held a private pilot license and loved flying his Piper Cherokee.  In his later years he enjoyed riding his Harley, target shooting, and spending time with his beloved dogs “Beau” and “Brownie”.

A private family service will be held Friday, August 11th at Lozano’s Flagstaff Mortuary.  Cremation rites will be accorded and burial will take place at a later date in Mound Grove Cemetery, Kankakee IL. Donations for the services can be made at Lozano’s Flagstaff Mortuary.
