Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Larry D. Marek walked on to meet his Creator on October 21, 2019.  He was surrounded by his loving family when he left.

Larry is survived by his wife of 44 years, Martha, whom he met at Haskell Indian Junior College; children Veronica, Ora, Cecilia, Isabel, and Larry J.; son-in-law Victor, grandchildren Brandan, Joshua, Victor, Alessandro, and Appolonia; and great-granddaughters Sophia and Olivia.  He joins his mother Helen, father Joseph, brother Reggie, and his grandson Jordan on the other side.

Larry was born in Seattle, WA, grew up in Fort Simcoe, WA, and lived in Lapwai, Idaho before settling in Flagstaff.  Larry was a proud member and former councilman of the Nez Perce tribe of Idaho.  He was a fisherman, hunter, storyteller, jeweler, artist, printer, photographer, and a carpenter.  Larry was also a proud Alumni of Northern Arizona University.  He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

On behalf of the Nez Perce Education Department, we are sending our prayers to the Marek family. Larry was well-respected as a tribal leader, cultural bearer, artist, and educator. We value the exceptional commitment that his sisters Agnes and Joanna have exhibited as former or current staff in our department, so know that focus on service comes from their family lineage that was also evident in Larry's life. Qe' ci yew' yew'.
