IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alice Lopez
Salazar
September 8, 1949 – October 6, 2024
Alice Lopez Salazar passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on the morning of October 6th. A life-long resident of Flagstaff, Alice was born on September 8, 1949, to Alfonso and Jessie Lopez. She attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic School and Flagstaff High School, graduating in 1967. In 1977, she married Reuben Salazar, from Williams, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
Alice devoted her life to her family and childcare. The eldest girl of eight (8) siblings, she always had the knack for helping and caring for others. She provided daycare for more than 40 years to countless families from Flagstaff and Northern Arizona University. Many of those children became family over the years.
Alice enjoyed cooking and hosting many of the family gatherings and special events at her home. She was known for making some of the best Mexican food in town, catering and an avid cake baker. Her homemade tamales were in high demand every holiday season. Alice was a faithful San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals fan and enjoyed watching sports at all levels, especially those played by her nephews and nieces.
Being surrounded by family was Alice's true joy, she was the true Matriarch of the Lopez family after the passing of her beloved mother in 2006—Alice is survived by her husband of 47 years, Reuben Salazar, her brothers Albert (Rose), Freddy, Larry (Raelene), Leonard, Henry, Felipe (Lori) Lopez; sister Cathy (Alfredo) Ruiz, and numerous nephews, nieces and godchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents Alfonso and Jessie, sister-in-law Theresa Salazar and great-nephew Nathan Jesus Ruiz.
A viewing will be held at Lozano's Flagstaff Mortuary, 2545 N 4th St, on Wednesday, October 16 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Holy Rosary will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 224 S Kendrick St, on Thursday, October 17 at 10 a.m. Funeral Mass to follow at 10:30 a.m. and gravesite burial at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, followed by a reception in the basement of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to Nurse Rayne and Northern Arizona Hospice for the in-home care and comfort they provided Alice over her final few months. In lieu of flowers, Mr. Salazar has requested donations be sent to Northern Arizona Hospice in Alice's name.
