Annie M. Watkins, 84, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2013 in Flagstaff, AZ
She was born August 14, 1929 in Maurice, LA to Abra and Rose (Trahan) Moss.
Annie was a founding member of the Flagstaff chapter of the NAACP (serving as secretary/treasurer), a daughter of the Flagstaff chapter of IBPOE of theworld Elks, a member of the education associations NEA, AEA, and FEA, Kappa Delta Pi international honor society for educators, assistant secretary of Dream scholarships (dispensing real educational academic minority scholarships), and Ebony Flames. She was also a Head Start teacher, Latch Key teacher (FUSD after school program), high school catechism teacher for Nativity Church, a member of the Golden Robe 50 year alumni class of NAU, and a Cub Scout den mother.
Although education and community service was Annie's dominant passion, she was completely devoted to her family and friends. She completely loved her husband Joe, her children, and grandchildren as well as her sisters, brothers and cousins from both sides of the family.
Annie is survived by her sons Abra Watkins and Craig Watkins and grandchildren Arianna and Aaron.
She is preceded in death by her husband Joseph A. Watkins.
An evening vigil and holy rosary will be held Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at 7:00 pm.Funeral mass will be Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at 10:30 both at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Chapel, 16 W. Cherry, Flagstaff, AZ . Burial will be at Citizens Cemetery.
