March 20, 1940 – February 20, 2020
Arthur was born on March 20, 1940 in Belen, NM to Felipe and Paublita Gonzales.Arthur's father was a sheepherder and when Arthur was 3 years old, the family moved to Flagstaff.
Arthur attended South Beaver Elementary, Flagstaff Junior High and Flagstaff High School where he graduated in 1958.Arthur did quit high school for a short period to join the Army National Guard at the age of 15.His mother had to sign a waiver for him to join.He eventually was honorably discharged in February of 1978 and received his office retirement as a SSG with the 855 MP Company in March of 2000 at the age of 60.
Mr. Gonzales also attended Arizona State College in his 20's and shortly after had 3 children, Laura Marie was born 1968, Angela Rose in 1971 and Arthur Benjamin Jr. in 1974.Arthur's children were his pride and joy and he loved the dearly.
Arthur began his career as a plumber/pipefitter in 1970.He continued that career for 22 plus years until he retired.He made many lasting friendships working at the Cholla Power Plant in Joseph City.He was a lifetime member of the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of Plumbing and Pipefitting.
Mr. Gonzales' interests include anything that had to do with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.Megan (Laura) made him so proud as she joined the Army and became an MP just like him.Hayden (Laura) finished diesel mechanic school in July and his Papa worried everyday about him working out in the cold.Miley (Arthur) played soccer and he may not have always been there, but she gave him a play by play of every game and he always knew the score.His 2 great granddaughters Kensleigh and Paisley were his heart and he loved to hear them call him Papa!His 2 bonus granddaughters Chelsea and Deejai always stayed close to his heart.He enjoyed lunch every Saturday at 3:30 with Frank Avelar and Pete Ramirez right up until his passing.
Arthur is survived by his 3 children, Laura (Paul), Angela and Arthur Jr.His oldest brother Louis Gonzales and sister Donna Conde.He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters and 3 brothers.
Catholic Rosary is at 9:30 a.m., Friday, March 6th with a funeral mass following.Burial will be with his mother at Calvary Cemetery after the mass.
Rest in peace now Dad, we will forever miss you and eternally love you.
