Obituary

Bruce Griffing Sarty left this life too soon on June 16, 2025, in Flagstaff, Arizona. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Sherri (Fuelle) Sarty; his children: Tanner Sarty, Tyler Sarty (Aurelia Sarty), and Stephanie Santana (Paul Santana); and his cherished grandchildren: Cohen, Dahlia, Stella, and Paislee.

Bruce was born on April 23, 1958, in Manchester, Connecticut, to Lee W. Sarty, Jr. and Joyce (DeGoey) Sarty. His sister, Lynne Sarty, resides in Northern California. He was predeceased by his beloved sister, Betsy (Sarty) Stewart, in 2006.

He had a deep love for his three grown children and took great pride in their accomplishments. Bruce was a devoted, committed, and always-present dad.

Bruce leaves behind countless friends — too many to name — because he made lasting connections wherever he went. He was loyal, loving, thoughtful, and truly selfless. One of his rare and admirable traits was his commitment to staying in touch, whether you met him in childhood, adulthood, or anywhere in between. He genuinely cared about how people were doing and made the effort that many of us don't.

He had a sense of humor like no other — uniquely "Bruce." His texts were often confusing (he strongly disliked texting), but those close to him became fluent in "Bruce" and learned to decipher his messages with love and laughter.

Bruce loved many things: his friends, family, food, and football (though not necessarily in that order). He enjoyed off-roading, tinkering with projects, grilling, talking on the phone (a lot), watching football, and drinking beer. And if he wasn't eating Mexican food, he was thinking about it.

He retired as a Master Sergeant from the United States Air Force, proudly serving our country from 1976 to 1994. His assignments took him to Texas, Idaho, Arizona, the Philippines, and California. After his military service, he worked with Sanders Engineering, All Cities, and Romero Construction (1994–2011). He later joined 4Clicks by Gordian (2011–2024), retiring from there before working his final year at LMC Corporation (2024–2025).

Bruce trained thousands in the JOC, SABER, and IDIQ world — including contractors, facility managers, subcontractors, and agency staff. If you were part of this community, there's a good chance Bruce taught you, supported you, or made you feel encouraged and capable.

A Celebration of Life will be held at his favorite brewery, Historic Brewing Company, on June 30, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., located at 4366 E. Huntington Dr., Flagstaff, AZ. If you plan to attend, please reach out to Stephanie or Sherri.

Bruce's legacy is one of connection, service, humor, and love — and he will be deeply missed.

Bruce will be deeply missed.  You were the family's rock and inspiration.  We will carry you in our hearts forever.  Rest in peace, DH.
