Celebrating the Life of John "Johnny" Lucero
August 9, 1947 – June 21, 2025

John Lucero — the quiet, talented man with a fishing pole in one hand and a wrench in the other — has moved on to his next journey. He shared his deep love for the outdoors and a lifetime of hands-on knowledge to help others learn, grow, and succeed.

Known as Johnny to those closest to him, he was raised in the crisp, pine-scented air of Flagstaff, Arizona. He found joy in nature, whether casting a fishing line with family and friends or turning wrenches on everything from weed whackers to hot rods. He had a passion for woodworking and tinkering, but what he cherished most was doing it alongside others — always eager to learn, always willing to teach.

John was a quiet leader, a natural mediator, and a man with a sharp wit that often appeared when least expected. He loved deeply — his family, his friends, neighbors and his community — and carried a quiet compassion that showed in his constant willingness to lend a hand.

John is survived by his wife Ramona, his son Leon, his sisters Virginia "Dinnie" Gonzalez, Irene Dominguez and his brother Nicholas Lucero, as well as a group of family and friends who feel his absence deeply.

His final months were made more comfortable and normal with the outstanding help, compassion and professionalism of his nurses Dida and Cyntia and the entire Hospice staff. His family has the utmost gratitude for their work. A huge thank you to Richard Lozano and Lozano's Flagstaff Mortuary and Crematory for not only being family, but providing love, support and guidance as John began his new journey.

In keeping with his wishes, there will be no solemn farewell. Instead, honor his memory by taking someone fishing who's never been, catching a ball game with a friend, helping a neighbor with a project, or simply sitting beneath a tree and remembering the times he made your life a little brighter. His life was enriched by the joy others brought him, and the world is now a little dimmer without the light of his beautifully shining soul.

Goodbye Johnny, until we see you again.
