It is with a very heavy heart that I share some tragic news about a member of our parish family.

Jordan Mahoney, age 21, was tragically killed in a drunk-driving accident this morning in Flagstaff, Arizona where she is a senior at Northern University Arizona. Jordan is the daughter of Carol & Patrick Mahoney who are active parishioners in our community. Carol was on staff at Holy Spirit Parish in the finance and facilities offices for many years and Jordan was the gem of her and Patrick's life. This is a devastating loss for their family. They are currently driving to Arizona to be with Jordan and bring her home to San Jose.

Jordan is an alumni of Holy Spirit School (2005) and Presentation High School (2009). Jordan was the first youth Mass Coordinator at Holy Spirit Parish in 2008 and an active leader of the 3Sixty Youth Core Team. She was a beautiful human being with a generous and open heart. She ministered to so many young people in our community and had an effervescent smile that would light up anybody's day. I was particularly close to Jordan and thought the world of her.

We, as a staff, are shocked and numbed by this news. It seems incomprehensible that Jordan is gone at only 21 years old. To help us deal with the loss, we will gather as a community for Mass this evening, Monday, September 10th at 6:30 p.m. We will lift up Jordan and the Mahoney family in this difficult time. If you are able to join us, please do so. If you cannot make it tonight, please keep her family in your prayers. Further prayer and funeral services will be announced when we have more information.

Also please give your loved ones a hug and kiss tonight. Remind them of your love for them and do not allow all the petty things of life to take a moment away from the joy of being alive. Life is too precious to waste.

The funeral for her will take place at 11am on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Holy Spirit Church.A reception will follow Mass in the Holy Spirit School Gym.
