Mr. McLaughlin died peacefully while asleep at his home in the Doney Park area a few miles north and east of Flagstaff, Arizona.Mr. McLaughlin, "Kenny" or "Mac" to his family and friends, was born in Jenks, Oklahoma to Mary W. and James H. McLaughlin.Mr. McLaughlin's mother passed away when he was 13 months old and Mr. McLaughlin was raised to adulthood by his maternal aunt, Callie Brooks and her brother, William Scruggs.
Mr. McLaughlin served in the United States Navy during World War II and remained committed to all veterans who have served this country.Mr. McLaughlin served as Post Commander of VFW Post 1709 in Flagstaff twice and was a volunteer club steward for many years.Mr. McLaughlin was a life member of the VFW and remained active in club affairs until his participation was curtailed by his age.Mr. McLaughlin was also a member and supporter of the Mark A. Moore American Legion Post #3 in Flagstaff.
Mr. McLaughlin was preceded in death by his wife of 50+ years, Mary Ella and a daughter, Patricia L. Aginiga (Steven) and a son, Kenneth M. (Mike) McLaughlin (Dorothy).He is survived by daughter Claudine Schira (Donald), and his sons, James E. McLaughlin (Diane), William L. McLaughlin (Linda) and Paul D. McLaughlin.
Mr. McLaughlin is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.One of his greatest pleasures after reaching an age that restricted his travel and movements was to have these young people come to his home and visit.
There will be a memorial service at the VFW Hall at 409 West Santa Fe Avenue beginning at 2:00 pm on Friday, December 11, 2015.In lieu of flowers Mr. McLaughlin would be proud and grateful for any donations made to any of the service clubs that serve our past and present military men and women.
