Obituary

Mani Lall Rai, 69, passed of natural causes on Monday, august 8. 2011 at his residence in Tuba City.

He was born December 16, 1941 in Illam, Nepal, the son of the late Indra and Salchaman Rai.

He immigrated to the US in his 20's as a Peace corp translator and to pursue a gradute education in Physics, chemistry, and Math at Ball State in Indiana, where he met and married Lind Lou Ketchum. Mani and Linda moved to Many Farms and then Tuba City, Arizona in 1981 with their four children to pursue teaching careers. Mani was a dedicated and passionate teacher of Physicis and Math for 39 years; he loved his students dearly and strove to convince them all that "Physics is Fun". Mani was an avid chess player, pipe smoker, spy novel fan, and lover of the first snows and Christmases with his family. He loved the Arizona mountains, which reminded him of his homeland in Nepal.

Survivors include his wife, Linda L. Rai; children Robert Rai, Candice Rai (husband Joel Felix), Andrew Rai (wife Rosalba Rai), Nathaniel Rai, (wife Brooke Wheeler); one grandsonOne Grandson Ethan Wheeler.

A Rememberance and celebration of Mr. Rai's life will be held from 2:00 – 3:pm Friday, August 12, 2011 at the Tuba City Public High School Pavilion. All Are Welcome.
