Marie was born to Charles and Mary Arney in Washington, Kansas, on March 9, 1938.  She passed away in Flagstaff, AZ, at the age of 87, on April 11, 2025.

Marie is survived by her children, Scott (Susan) Sorensen of Grand Rapids, MI; Todd (Danelle) Sorensen of Olathe, KS; and Lisa (Marc) Hill of Flagstaff, AZ. Seven grandchildren (Lauren, Benjamin, Brian, Catherine, Stephen, Jennifer, and Sean) and 11 great-grandchildren. Her sisters, Barbara Munson, Susan Verspohl, and Deborah Bray. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Clair, her older brother, Robert Arney, and younger sister Vickie Scow.

Marie and Clair met on a blind date in North Platte, NE, in February 1958. After a short courtship, they were married in August of that year. They were married for 58 years until Clair passed in 2016.  They were avid Nebraska Cornhusker fans, living in Lincoln, Norfolk, and Scottsbluff.  They lived in Northglenn, CO, for a few years, where many family gatherings were held with her sisters living nearby. In 1975, the family moved to Albuquerque, NM, where Marie started as a teller at a savings & loan and retired as a bank Vice President. After retirement, Clair and Marie moved to Olathe, KS, to be closer to family.  In January 2023, Marie moved to Flagstaff, AZ, where she got to see her in-town great-grandchildren frequently.

Marie enjoyed cheering on her kids through the years in sports and other activities. She and Clair were active members at St. Paul's Methodist Church in Albuquerque for many years. In Flagstaff, she attended Challenge Church, where she enjoyed hearing about the various mission trips taken by the college students. She lived at The Bluffs of Flagstaff Senior Living and enjoyed socializing with staff and other residents over games of bingo, trivia, and her weekly manicures.

In Marie's final days, she was cared for by staff at Flagstaff Medical Center and Aspire Transitional Care.  The family appreciates the care given to her by the staff at these facilities.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Challenge Church, 424 S. Beaver St., Flagstaff, AZ 86001, June 14, 2025, at 11:00 am.  At Marie's request, instead of flowers, she asked for donations to Christian Challenge Student Missions.  Tax-deductible donations can be made to Christian Challenge with "Marie Sorensen Memorial" in the memo line and mailed to 424 S. Beaver St., Flagstaff, AZ 86001.
