Mary Diaz Contreras passed away peacefully at the Olivia White Hospice Home on April 28, 2011.Mary was born on September 27, 1926 in Jerome, AZ to José R. and Silvina (Delgado) Diaz.The Diaz family moved from Jerome to Williams before settling in Flagstaff, in the early 1940's.She married Julian Contreras in 1961.Mary worked for 20 years at the Fronske Studio, and also worked as a prep cook at various restaurants including the Crown Restaurant in east Flagstaff, before retiring and becoming a homemaker.Mary loved music, sewing and being a loving sister, mother and grandmother.She will be remembered as a quiet, gentle lady and she always had a warm and inviting smile.She was a member of the San Francisco de Asis Catholic Parish.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, her 2 brothers, Alexander D. Diaz and Joseph D. Diaz, Jr.She is survived by her 2 sisters Isabel D. Diaz, Rosary Diaz Lozano, her husband Julian, daughter Theresa, son, Joseph and 6 grandchildren and numerous relatives.

An evening vigil and holy Rosary will be held on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at 6:00 pm.The funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at 11:00 am, both services will be at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 224 S. Kendrick.Burial will follow at the Calvary Cemetery, 201 W. University.
