Obituary

Nancy Odette Vernon, born November 25, 1955, to Gilbert Daniel Vernon and Marta Lucrecia Orellana in Puerto Barrios, Guatemala. Oldest of her siblings, Jorge Vernon, Juan Vernon, Kenneth Vernon. Mother to two children, Sarah Benatar and David Benatar. Loving grandmother to Elena, Stella, and Michael.

Loving daughter, sister, mother, niece, and cousin. She loved and cared for everyone around her. Nancy came to the United States with a dream of a better life for her family. She dedicated her life to raising her two kids as a single mom after her partner passed away when her children were two and four years old. From a young age Nancy was always a giver and helper. Her life was dedicated to helping children and families. She worked as an advocate for farm workers and their families, a teaching aide at various schools in Tampa for students with English as their second language, a secretary for an elementary school library, and as an Americorp member helping youth and families at juvenile court in Flagstaff. She came to the United States and lived in New York before moving to the Tampa Bay Area and settling in Las Vegas during her final years. Nancy passed away after a long battle with Frontotemperal Dementia and Progressive Supranuclear Palsy.

Her family remembers her as a bright light, bringing energy wherever she went. She cared for her family deeply and dedicated her life to supporting not just her children but helping her entire family both in the US and Guatemala. Nancy loved her garden, with her favorite flower being a rose of any color. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, children, siblings, nieces and nephews. One of her favorite things was to bring family to Disney World and Disneyland. She will be remembered and loved my many across the world for her dedication to family, helping others, and kind heart.
