Phillip Chavez (Phil) passed away at his Flagstaff home on Thursday, October 04, 2012. Phil was born on May 23, 1944 in Silver City, NM.
He is survived by Bert Chavez, his loving wife of 43 years, and three devoted children, Karon Chavez Rojas and her husband Ray Rojas who reside in Key West, FL., Phillip A. Chavez of Flagstaff, AZ., Randy Chavez and his wife Tangie of Henderson, NV. His grandchildren include, Jason Washington, Shane Chavez both from Key West, FL., Devin Lubeck, who is currently serving in the U. S. Air Force and his wife Rori, Jared Lubeck, Dustin Chavez from Phoenix, AZ, Dillon Chavez, who is currently attending Austin Peay in Clarksville, TN, Kyle Norton from Henderson, NV and Michael Rojas from Deatsville, AL. His surviving siblings are Emma Roberts of Cortez, CO, Bernice Martinez and Vera Tapia both of Kingman, AZ, Flaviano Chavez of Phoenix, AZ, Leroy Chavez and Margie Tiede both from Flagstaff, AZ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacobo Chavez who died on February 24, 1986 and Adela Chavez who died on July 5, 1999 and two siblings Felonice and Ralf Chavez both died in infancy from pneumonia.

Inc. for 43 years, he was recently retired. He was a prominent member of the Coconino County Sheriff's Posse, a member of the Elks Club, as well as being a member of the San Francisco de Asis community. Phil loved living in the Flagstaff area and spent many hours in the outdoors hunting and fishing. He and his wife Bert spent the long weekends camping all over northern Arizona. Among his favorite spots included Roosevelt Lake, Ashurst Lake with his long time favorite being Gooseberry Springs.
Those that were fortunate enough to have known Phil knew him as a very caring and devoted family member and friend. Never refusing to help anyone in need, he had a heart larger than the great outdoors that he loved so much.
Holy rosary will be said on Monday, October 8, 2012 at 1:00 pm followed immediately by Mass both at St. Pius Catholic Church, 2257 E. Cedar Ave.
