Richard Erfert, of Flagstaff, Arizona, passed away at home on October 6, 2026, after cancer. He was 86. Born on August 16, 1940, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Richard lived a life marked by service, faith, and enduring devotion to both his profession and the people he loved.
Richard served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1959 to 1963. He went on to build a distinguished career in law enforcement and forensic work, serving 15 years with the Milwaukee Police Department before moving to Arizona. He later worked with the DPS Northern Regional Crime Lab as a Latent Fingerprint Examiner. His professional life reflected careful skill, steady dedication, and a commitment to public service.
Beyond his work, Richard found fellowship and enjoyment in the communities that meant so much to him. He was involved with the Canyon Country Model T Club, Model T Ford Club International, and the Model T Ford Club of America, sharing an enthusiasm for classic automobiles with others who appreciated them as he did. His faith was also an important part of his life through Canyon Chapel Foursquare Church, and he was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Peace Officers.
Richard will be deeply missed by his wife, Joyce Erfert; his daughter, Sara Werra, and her husband, Dan Werra; his son, Alan Erfert; his sister, Judy Dengel; his brother Tom Erfert and Tom’s wife, Chris; and his brother Mike Erfert and Mike’s wife, Debbie. He was preceded in death by his sister, Pat Erfert, and by his parents, Harry and Leona Erfert. May his memory remain a source of comfort and gratitude to all who knew and loved him.
A memorial service will be held on October 31, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Canyon Chapel, 1919 North Fourth Street, Flagstaff, Arizona 86004.
