Obituary

Stanley E (Buzz) Westling passed away peacefully at home November 12, 2023.  Buzz was born in Butte Montana April 11, 1929, to James V. and Hermina Westling.  He graduated from Butte High School and earned his bachelor's degree from Montana State College (now Montana State University).  Buzz served in the US Air Force in the newly organized AFDS 8th USAF, stationed at Greenham Common AFB, Thathcham, UK and at Lakenheath AFB, Brandon, UK.  Buzz was a leader in Cub Scouts Pack 34 where he was known by an untold number of east Flagstaff boys as AKELA, and he was recognized by many people for this role throughout his lifetime. He also coordinated years of Cub Scout pinewood derby races, building, and transporting pinewood derby racetracks to numerous Cub Scout Packs throughout the northland.  Buzz wore many different hats for Mt. Elden Little League and Flagstaff Babe Ruth baseball.

Buzz enjoyed poetry, classical music, playing the harmonica (especially to the dogs who howled with his playing), garage "saling" and buying secondhand treasures, and tinkering in the garage where he was a self-solution innovator. In retirement he and wife Pearl also enjoyed exploring historic sites and battlefields and travelling throughout the US to attend his Air Force reunions.

Buzz is survived by his wife Pearl, sons Jim (Marsha), Joe (Lisa), Bob (Robin), and Victor (Kim) and daughter-in-law Shari, and 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his son Rick, daughter-in-law Linda and his two sisters.

Buzz's greatest love and accomplishment were his family and his grandchildren. His was a Life Well Lived.

A memorial service will take place at Lozano's Flagstaff Mortuary January 20, 2024, 11:00 am followed by a reception.
