L. Thomas Atwood, of Flagstaff, Arizona, passed away on March 6th, 2022, after a three-year struggle with Lung Cancer. He had just celebrated his 79th birthday on February 12th. Tom was a prominent businessman in Flagstaff. He started Flagstaff Design and Construction in 1972 and continued the business until his retirement in 2013. Many homes and commercial buildings were built by the company throughout Northern Arizona and Southern Utah, including on the campus of Northern Arizona University. He also served on the Planning and Zoning Commission for the City of Flagstaff and was instrumental in creating and implementing the Green Landscaping ordinance that has beautified Flagstaff for many years. He also supported students at Coconino Community College with scholarships for a number of years. He employed over forty people throughout the years at Flag Design.



Tom was also an avid boater and supporter of our natural surroundings. He was a wonderful father and genealogist who valued his children, wife, and grandchildren above all else. He never failed to say how proud he was of each of them. He hiked and biked with all of them and traveled the world with his family. He also deeply valued the people he worked with and felt that many ofthem were a part of our family unit.



He graduated from West High School in Phoenix, Arizona where he met and fell in love with his wife, Shannon. They moved to Flagstaff soon after and made it their forever home.



Tom was predeceased by his wife of over 60 years, Shannon Atwood, in November, and his mother Margaret and father William Warren Atwood. He is survived by his three daughters Grace, Elease, and Kristie, his three grandchildren Matthew, Manu, and Aubrey, four great grandchildren, and his sister Coleen. He was much loved and will be dearly missed. He was an adventurer and was open to doing almost anything he was asked.



The family will be holding a viewing and service for him on Thursday, March 10th at 2:00pm, at Lozano's funeral home on 4th Street. All are welcome.
