Mary Wanda (nee Foster) Ward passed away on January 18, 2020 in Page, AZ. She was known to family and friends her whole life as Wanda. Born in a small farmhouse in tiny Virden, New Mexico, on September 17, 1922, the fourth child of six, raised mostly alone by their mother.
While attending Western New Mexico State College in Silver City in 1939, she met Byron “Mack” McKinley Ward. They were married on August 13, 1940. On December 8, 1941, right after Pearl Harbor, Mack and his brother and Wanda’s three brothers all joined the service. In 1943 they had their first Child, Jo Ellen Ward (Bingham). In 1959, the family took a wild gamble and moved to the brand-new town of Page after Mack was told that the town needed a pharmacist, so Mack and Wanda started Page Rexall Drugstore that year. Son Philip Franklin Ward was born in Page in 1960, and the baby of the family, Jane Elizabeth Ward, was born in Page in 1963.
Mack and Wanda loved Lake Powell and spent years with their family exploring nearly the entire shoreline. The Ward family were some of the most influential of the Page Pioneer families. Both Wanda and Mack served on many school, church, charity and social services boards and agencies during their life in Page.
Wanda is survived by son Philip and his wife Michele, daughter Jane, daughter-in-law Gay Ann Ward, seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. Wanda was preceded in death by son David, husband Mack, daughter Jo Ellen and son Steven.
