Stuart Thomas Crossman passed away May 11, 2019 after a long illness. Stu was born September 20, 1963 in Peterborough, New Hampshire, and grew up on his family’s dairy farm. Before moving to Arizona 12 years ago, Stu lived in the Florida Keys where he operated a restaurant and bar in Key West.
In Flagstaff, Stu worked in hotel management for several years, enjoying swapping stories with travelers from all over the world. Later, as Procurement Director at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore, Stu met many members of the community while collecting donations of reusable goods and reselling them to help support Habitat.
Stu was gregarious, with a zest for life, interested in everything and everyone. He loved old cars, especially Volvo and Saab, and enjoyed driving up to Snow Bowl and around Mormon Lake. Stu also loved music, especially the Grateful Dead, and tie-dye t-shirts were his favorite attire. Well known for his special baklava recipe, he was a very creative chef, often surprising friends with his creations. Stu never regretted moving to Arizona and always took time to appreciate the gorgeous sunsets and amazing meteor showers.
A big heartfelt thank you to Hospice Compassus, Abrio Care, Northland Hospice, The Peaks, Flagstaff Medical Center and private caregivers Mike Pruden and Emmy Sabori for their kind care during his journey. Stu is survived by his partner of 10 years, Peggy Church; his daughter, Ariel Murphy of Rome, New York; and his favorite kitty “Squirrel”. Your bright blue eyes and sunny smile will be missed but we’ll think of you whenever we see a shooting star.
